CHANGING LIVES without CHANGING CULTURES

KARE provides microloans to individuals and small groups, which support self-help, entrepreneurship, and empowers people to work their way out of poverty by providing the resources they need to get started! Microfinance has proven to be an effective economic development strategy.

Our programs have helped develop markets for traditional skills, provide employment opportunities that supplement, not replace, traditional livestock economy through conservation programs such as habitat restoration projects and wildlife monitoring. They have also helped to develop wildlife reserves and eco-tourism programs so communities can benefit from their own natural resources. Past loans have helped individuals and familes open a small curio shop, a veterinary supply store, a walking safari business, an egg business through the purchase of poultry to sell to local lodges, a women's beading and craft market, ecotourism, amountain trek and camping business, a cultural boma for tourist visitors, and many other small businesses.

By building capacity and giving individuals and communities new opportunities to provide for their own needs, they can survive and thrive in a rapidly changing world, while preserving their cultural integrity and the lifestyle they choose.
